Often lovely, often ugly, often monotonous, but eminently enjoyable - - for the patient travelers. There are occasional screamy vocal spots, but these are just ruins of towns scrolling by the grime-streaked windows.
This is Blackgaze. Or, as TRNA have been labelled, it’s “Celestial Blackgaze.”
This is not a party album, not a toe-tapper. This is a contemplative journey for closed eyes listening. It has the feel of one long song broken up into six parts. I think TRNA are at their most poignant when the music quiets down, as in the opening measures of “04-Burning Bridges, Shattered Dreams.”
This is a niche appeal, for sure - - but I think those in this niche will have a meaningful experience with TRNA. Put it on and breathe deep.
*I say there are six songs on Istok. . . Track 7 is an instrumental repeat of track 3: “Shining.”
