Gosta Berlings Saga’s “Konkret Musik” is the mysterious, serious, sexy, moody, suspenseful, enigmatic Prog instrumental album that 2020 needed. It could double as the soundtrack for a great spy thriller. This is not Heavy music in the chugging power chords sense, but Heavy in its intensity and dramatic tension. The keyboards often co-lead with the guitars, and sometimes occupy the forefront. A lot of the riffs and sections are built around sequences of big fat synth notes, like something from Kraftwerk, Daft Punk, Jean-Michel Jarre, The Human League, or Giorgio Moroder. Think of a Prog Rock response to Herbie Hancock's funky masterpiece, "Rock It;" the dancing robot mannequins from that old video would be a perfect fit for GBS's sound.

The nervous kineticism of the hi-hat moves each track like a chase scene. Each instrument does its own thing, weaving together with the other threads to make a taut tightrope - - stretched high above the floor with no net. At different times, whether it’s the more mellow pieces or the high energy rockers, I’m transported back to the Photon (Laser Tag) playing fields of the futuristic 80s.
Get your shades on, adopt a pensive-yet-stonefaced look, and go out for a drive with “Basement Traps” playing; you’ll feel like the coolest motherfucker on the planet. Just check your mirror to make sure you aren’t being tailed.
