Another wonder from Down Under! The Australian Metal scene delivers again.
I could almost Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V the “reminds me of” section of my Haken review for this one - - “21st-century Opeth, Devin Townsend, Katatonia, melodic BTBAM, Aeon Zen, Shumaun, middle-era Voivod, Spock’s Beard, and labelmates, Caligula’s Horse” - - just removing Voivod, replacing Caligula’s Horse with Haken, and adding Seal. Seal?! Yes Seal - - the “Kiss From a Rose” guy. . . who was married to Heidi Klum at one point. . . “Resonate” and “Autumn” could both have blended well into one of Seal’s excellent self-titled records. There’s even a pinch of Imogen Heap in these two.

“Resonate” and “Autumn” are both very good songs, but they’re outliers for CH’s sound. “Valkyrie,” for example, does NOT sound like any 90s Pop artists. It’s probably the best on the album, although the 10-minute “Ascent” is also a pretty great, Proggy, Moderate-skill-level hike. “Salt,” another standout Prog opus, indulges in varying intensities. That 40-second guitar solo that starts somewhere in the 5th minute is especially lovely. “The Tempest” will also surely get some worthy attention.
I can see why Caligula was so fond of his favorite horse. It’s a fine addition to the Progressive Metal stables. Do seek out and check out "Rise Radiant."
