Not too long ago, Leif Edling announced the Swedish doom lords would cease to be a recording act, to simply concentrate on live performances. Yet, here's a four song teaser from the recent incarnation (w/ singer Mats Levin). The lively opening title track is more ‘Black Dwarf’ than ‘Samarithan’. #2, ‘Sleeping Giant’ return to the slower, bludgeoning, as does ‘Sinister & Sweet’, the latter being the more epic (some might say "old school") construction, complete with tasty guitar break.

The 6:45 closer, ‘The Goose’, is predominantly an instrumental, built on a recurrent theme and spiraling guitar: the sound of a doomed plane, inevitably corkscrewing to a crash landing. Thankfully airship Candlemass is afforded a better fate, navigating familiar heights and coming in for a safe landing. Hope more "journeys" are on the flight plan!
