With an E.p. and demo in the 90s, debut “Pharaoh of Gods” released in 1999, “Advent of The Human God” is Necronomicon’s fifth album over the course of their (consistent) seventeen years recording. This Canadian trio (isn’t black supposed to come from the Scandinavian countries?) similar to Behemoth, Immortal, and Dimmu Borgir in sound, style, and image. Take opening intro ‘The Descent’ (which sounds like something straight out of a Hellraiser movie) that segues into ‘Advent of The Human God’; fashioned around a Nergal (Behemoth) death vocal, blasting furious with Dimmu cascading orchestral sounds and accenting demonic voice. ‘Okkultis Trinity’ is another well constructed orchestral piece fit for a theatrical movie, setting up ‘The Golden Gods’ fury.

At 3:27, ‘Unification of The Four Pillars’ is delivered with 90% Behemoth (as with ‘The Fjord’) power and aggression, and a brief melodic symphonic break mid way. Nice dark mood set in ‘Gaia’ with its subtle organic sounds before ‘I (Bringer Of Light)’ chugs along. Slowing things down, keeping with a dramatic feel, at only 1:08 seconds, ‘ Innocence And Wrath’ (Celtic Frost), is really a waste of a cover. Could have picked something longer, or instead of an instrumental. Up to this point its obvious these guys can handle their own writing original intros/outros, etc. In closing, not a bad band, the music is solid, but the blackened death metal scene is so over-crowded to begin with. Plus, with bigger names to contend with, and too much in common with who I observed, is why it’s a 7/10.
