These aren't your stereotypical polite Canadians. Diemonds' third album, "Never Wanna Die," shows a talented, driven band from Toronto demanding to be noticed. I'm shocked that the hard rock radio networks aren't all over them. The components for success are all there in spades: youthful energy, catchy hooks, Bob-Rock-style production, and an overload of 'tude. Combine their music and spunkiness with the photogenic players and their drop-dead female vocalist, all sporting a badass, neo-Guns n' Roses image, and you'd expect the mainstream rock journalism crowd to be groveling at their feet.

The heavily-picked bass and rawk riffs are strong with this one, but it's Priya Panda's voice and f**k-you snarl that really drive the entire sound. She evokes Runaways-era Joan Jett (If you're reading this, Priya, then I'm sure you've heard this a million times).

To be clear, this is straight ahead, dirty stuff straddling the border of Metal and hard rock, with no hints of punk irony. There are no songs about epic Elven battle armies, black magic, deep introspection, or effecting societal changes - - this is all about getting in your face with piss and vinegar; rocking your party, and pushing your foot on the accelerator. And to be clear, this isn't my kind of thing, but I have to call it like I see it: Diemonds know exactly what they want to be, and they've nailed it.

The title track opens things up and sets the tone, but I think ‘Over It’ is the most undeniable on the album. ‘Better Off Dead’ is loaded with f-bombs and won't be ignored. I'd also recommend ‘Hell is Full’, and if you like this kind of rock, you'll like the finisher: ‘Save Your Life’. Cheers.
