Found somewhere between the industrial rhythms of Rob Zombie (see ‘Nailed by the Hammer of Frankenstein’) and the arena anthems of Alice Cooper are the (monster) costumed Lordi from Finland. Coming on the scene in 2002 with their debut “Get Heavy”, Lordi have worked crafting their sound and appearance. The new album, and title track, achieve a noticeable cohesion between metal and melody, and the horror themes to each song. You can hear when it comes to the chorus these guys learned from (Cooper) the best. ‘How To Slice A Whore’ continues to take a page from the Cooper book of tongue and cheek. A circus intro melody opens ‘Hell Sent In The Clowns’ and carries throughout the tune, same with a haunting piano for ‘House Of Ghosts’.

‘Monster Is My Name’ has a little more Zombie attitude in the lyrics; “Who the hell think do you are fuck face, you don’t shit about nothing”. Slower pacing and a Sabbathy plod provides ‘The United Rockin Dead’ a different feel from the rest of the tracks. Fitting creepy piano sets the mood in ‘She’s A Demon’ with the catchy riff, complimenting leads, and solo. What, to me, is the sound of a moving train, combined with the riff and backing keys signals ‘Sir, Mr. Presideath, Sir’, hard rockin and catchy.

Album number seven seems to be the lucky one for Lordi. Worthy successors to Alice when he retires.
