Similar in scope and scale to Audrey Horne, another Norwegian outfit/outlet for members raised (renown for) black metal, but who simply want to don leather jackets, dark shades and rock out, with high octane, bluesy old school bar chords and a tip of the cap to the simplicity of AC/DC (without sounding anything like the Aussies, as there’s already too many Angus-inspired clones). Dimmu Borgir frontman Shagrath handles guitar and backing vocals here, the mic belonging to Susperia’s Shady Blue.

This is their fourth album and after a short atmospheric, acoustic guitar instrumental intro (‘Good Morning Riot’), it’s eleven tales of women and wine. The extended version includes a bonus track, a cover of Helix’s ‘Dirty Dog’. Interesting choice! Staccato riffs, clean (whiskey & cigarette hoarsed) gritty voices and enough space for the odd guitar solo/spotlight dominate throughout. ‘Endless Nights’ also employs wah wah pedal and squawk box, while ‘(She’s) Hot Tonight’ is a punk infused/ Iggy Pop slice of guitar rock. Midway through the disc, twin, southern rock acoustics kick off ‘Lady Of Perpetual Sorrow’, the first slow-down, and partnered alongside a down tuned, solo happy ‘The Moonshine Years’, is something closer to 90s Seattle sludge than the high flying act exhibited elsewhere. The omnipresent, unplugged six-string reappears at the start of a mid-tempo ‘On The Run Again’. After the jet fuelled beginning, sot of bogs down in the middle, before ending with a winning stretch that begins with a revved up, Motorhead (Ramones) inspired ‘Mistress In Madness’, through the cowbell enhanced stripper strut of ‘Reaper On The Hunt’ and speedy ‘Ol’, before the aforemention, fun-loving cover finale. Chrome is shining brightly.
