With bushy moustaches, faded denim and patch-covered jackets, Night are a Swedish foursome fawning over classic, early 80s metal. What’s in the water over there? Ultra-high pitched yelps (seemingly inspired by countrymen Enforcer) and guitar jams, after the opening ‘Fire And Steal’, follow-up ‘Gunpowder Treason’ opts for a simple 4:4 time signature, Sunset Strip (dirty, early Ratt, circa Ep) strut.

Know there’s a glam resurgence in their homeland, but completely contrary to the kick-off and most of what follows, although there’s some residual (hammer-on delivered) Cali in the strained vocals of ‘Hang Em High’ too. While the mid-tempo ‘Out Of The Ashes’ will probably earn a few bucks in bump & grind parlors, it also possesses a legitimate AC/DC legacy, apart from the dog whistle vocals. ‘Play It Loud’ locks into a similar groove, right away. The singer is an “acquired taste,” but the music is first rate: old school and completely unoriginal (but who cares?). ‘Running In The Night’, like most of it compatriots, is simple, mid-tempo guitar driven Saturday night, party fodder. At the tail end of the album, ‘Into The Night’ finally takes the shackles off the speed, a full bore headbanging anthem. Been around a long time and this does my heart good (wild animal shrieks aside), not sure how many scene “veterans” still feel the same way.
