What is destined to be Z.P. Theart’s swansong with the kinetic multi-national outfit, this dual disc, live retrospective offers 13 tracks and plenty of solos recorded during their UK tour in Nov/Dec 2009. Both the classical piano begun ballad ‘Starfire’ (which is devoid of the usual frenetic fretboards) and ‘Valley Of The Damned’ are lifted from the ’03 Noise debut bearing the latter’s name, although the reissued version’s bonus track, ‘Where Dragons Rule’ is included. Never seen a band utilized such “ultra rare” material for a live album, as ‘Strike Of The Ninja’ a bonus cut from “Ultra Beatdown” is also here. Sort of cool for the casual fan who hasn’t bought the pricey “limited editions”. For all the accusations of video game metal (and at times it DOES feel as if someone left the PS2 on in the background), Dragonforce are essentially Manowar taken to the extreme. Not sure why nearly every spoken sentence needs to be punctuated by profanity, perhaps his inability to actually say anything was part of what cost Theart his job.
