Rattlehead – Tales From The Gutter

Riding the current wave of thrash metal comes Hollywood Cali’s Rattlehead (think they are influenced by Megadeth?, well "Killing Is My Business" era a bit musically in ‘A.W.O.L.’). "Tales From the Gutter" (their third album), really doesn’t offer much interesting in their brand of thrash, its as old school and straight forward as you’re gonna get, more similar to newer bands like Bonded By Blood, Gama Bomb, and Fueled By Fire, than a Lazarus A.D.

After short unnecessary short instrumental ‘Overture 666’, ‘Just Stay Down’ sets the tempo for the album with a upbeat pace, a nice groove change pre guitar solo, but bland gruff vocals void of individuality or personality. Because of the slower beat ‘Nightmares Never Stop’ is the odd ball and given the vocals has more of a hardcore sound and attitude (see Biohazard). ‘The Losing Hand’ has the strongest groove and tempo change on the album and ‘Digging My Own Grave’ one of the better riffs.

Nothing special but not terrible, average at best.
