Downspirit - Point Of Origin

Symphorce/ex-Freedom Call guitarist Cedric "Cede" Dupont really wants to resurrect the 80s with his new offshoot, a time of cowboy influences and love songs. Listen to the countrified (complete with harmonica) ‘Love Song’, even with its veering into Kid Rock rap territory. Speaking of which, initially ‘Hollow Words’ rips-off Rock’s ‘Cowboy’.

‘Life’s A Bitch’ begins with a western guitar solo and even the cover artwork, American southwest ghost town and dessert scenery, screams old school. Not sure how squawk boxes fit in there, as they’re utilized (briefly) throughout the ten proper tunes (opener ‘Part Of Origin Part 1’ is just an instrumental intro), although ‘Rockstar Blues’ is credited as a bonus (eleventh) track. More harmonica and honky-tonk to start ‘Good Times’. Saddle up and ride off into the sunset.
