A new entry in the female fronted metal sweepstakes, even though it’s the Italian outfit’s sophomore effort. Unlike so many others, Giorgia Gueglio can’t be pigeon-holed to one of the better known names. In fact, she often recalls 70s rockers like Blondie or Heart, as much as Within Temptation’s Sharon den Adel.

Musically, there’s a mix of the neo-classical style so popularized by their countrymen (as well as populating the Lion roster), including a pair of instrumentals (‘Las Serenissima’ and ‘Space Trip’) but a more staccato, emotive ‘Misr’ and ‘Jade Star’ ballad break that mold. Not completely a surprise as founding guitarist Pier Gonella is also a member of Labyrinth and drumming is handled by guesting Vision Divine skinbeater Alessandro Bissa. ‘Event Horizon’ kicks things off in an infectious gallop, as does ‘Great Heaven’s Climb’ and the ‘Scarlett’ finale revolved around the heroine of Gone With The Wind. Hot singer cover art, squatting in shiny black vinyl pants, doesn’t hurt to catch the eye, either.
