Innerwish - No Turning Back

This little Swedish label has uncovered some real gems of late: first Sinbreed and now Greece’s answer to Primal Fear, Innerwish. Actually, the opening ‘The Signs Of Our Life’ comes closest to the German Commandos, as elsewhere there’s the Middle Eastern flavor of ‘Sirens’ and similarly minded, acoustic tinged ‘Kingdom Of Our Prime’. Non-electric axes also accent a heavier ‘Burning Desires’.

Most of the dozen follow the power metal pattern: the lively title track, ‘Chosen One’, a galloping ‘Save Us’, the Judas Priest meets Primal Fear introduced ‘Lawmaker’ and ‘Last Breath’. A few feature gang-choruses. The piano-only, classical closer ‘Live For My Own’ seems out of place. I believe it’s their attempt at Manowar style operatic ballad, but lacks any such potency, just an anti-climatic finish to an otherwise strong disc.
