‘Drive It In’ is the sleazy, aggressive blues-based number we’d expect these guys (who recorded ‘Smelly Nelly’ and ‘Mr. 69’) to kick off an album. Sadly, as is often the case with men of their age, they shoot their load too quickly, as nothing that follows can match the (relative) intensity. Musical Viagra anyone? ‘Hoodoo Woman’ is a slow, bluesy number, minimal lyrics.
‘Rock N Roll Handshake’ cops almost a duplicate vibe. Back in the day, before Airbourne or Bullet, the Swiss Blitz was accused of sounding too much like classic AC/DC, a trait they’ve not abandoned, as the Bon Scott flavored ‘Keep Me Rolling’ and cover of Steppenwolf’s ‘Born To Be Wild’ so vividly demonstrate. I know you scored big in the 80s with covers of ‘American Woman’ and ‘Ballroom Blitz’, but really, after two decades apart, you couldn’t come up with another original? Album is only 42 minutes as is! Speaking of recapturing the past, the plodding ‘Ride Into The Sun’ is basically a re-write of ‘Burning Bones’ (off “Hardware”). Only ‘In My Blood’ and the concluding ‘Firestar’ get into an upbeat tempo.
