What first struck me while listening to "Embrace" was the guitar riffs, evidenced right away on the title track. The guitar has a bluesy sound where you can hear influences of Eric Clapton and Pink Floyd. Denander is know for his ability to play any style and he does this style very well. Four-part vocals remind me of 70’s band vocals, not a selling point for me. Otherwise, vocals are clean and smooth. There is a definite 80’s vibe to Spin Gallery’s music, done intentionally, to mix older melodic rock sounds such as Toto and Journey with influences of bands like Pink Floyd and Peter Gabriel. ‘Brilliance of the Drugs’ is one of the best tracks on the album with its driving bass line, great hooks, harsher vocals, and again, nice guitar soloing.
On the softer side of melodic rock and thus a bit too mellow for my taste, but an enjoyable disc all the same. Good songwriting and musicianship, especially the guitar. So if you’re looking for a modern spin on 80’s melodic rock, this is definitely one to check out.
