Who is Blackwood Creek? Well…they are three childhood friends from Littleton Colorado, brothers Kip & Nate Winger joined by Peter Fletcher. The band got its start in 1969 when they were just teenagers playing High Schools and eventually night clubs, performing songs by their favorite bands like Grand Funk, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Led Zeppelin along with their originals and never released a recording until now. Upon their disbanding in 1980, as we all know Kip went on to form the successful Winger band and Nate also recorded with several known hard rockers during the 80s. The three remained friends throughout the years and in 2007 got together and starting writing and recording which would turn out to be the Blackwood Creek debut.

Blackwood Creeks sound and style is based in southern hard rock/blues, from the very laid back, acoustically formatted ‘After Your Heart’ and ‘Nothing But The Sun’, to the heavier rockin ‘Jimmy and Georgia’, ‘Rack Of Greed’ and ‘Joy Ride’. Kip’s voice sounds just as good as I remember, Nate is solid on the drums and Peter is impressive on both acoustic and electric guitars. Backin vocals are tight and right on.

The production is noteable, and as good or even better than many other big over budget (Metallica’s "Death Magnetic") releases.

This album is enjoyable and full of emotion, stripped down, bar band rock and roll. Not being a big fan of the band Winger I am impressed musically and this cd will see repeat listens. Perfect for when driving with non-metal fans this will be your salvation!
