"Mind Exceeding" is the first album from Brazilian progressive metal band Vougan, which has recently relocated to Texas. The band was formed in 2005 and includes Carlos Zema (ex-Outworld) on vocals.

There are three instrumental tracks of the ten, each of which I found enjoyable. One is a beautiful piano solo piece that really showcases the talent of the keyboardist, which I also noted in a couple other places throughout the album. The rest of the instrumentalists show their stuff in the last track, a 3-part song.

Although I really enjoyed the musical aspects of the album, it seemed to lack vocal melodies and hooks. Here’s to hoping the band can improve this very important aspect for their next album. If they can, it may just put them on the playing field.
