Kreator - At The Pulse Of Kapitulation - Live In East Berlin 1990

Label: SPV USA
Format: DVD / CD
Released: 2008
Reviewed By: Rich Catino

This release is of two previous Kreator VHS videos, “Live in East Berlin” and the “Hallucinative Comas”. With inferior sound quality found on a VHS copy by today’s DVD standards, the “Live in Berlin” concert has been upgraded with a digital transfer, re edited with Andy Sneap mixing it for the 5.1 format and the end result is solid. Picture quality is also very good, clear and clean throughout even with the brighter colors like red and oranges that always washed out the stage in these pre late 90’s concerts. The color transfer is better now and not so heavy. Set list includes old favorites “Extreme Aggression”, “Under the Guillotine”, “Pleasure to Kill”, “Flag of Hate” and “Tormentor”, to other over looked goodies like “Bringer of Torture” and “Some Pain Will Last” both from the album “Extreme Aggression” and “Toxic Trace” (from “Terrible Certainty”).

Also included is a documentary called “The Past and Now” which features recent interviews with people who experienced the event when it was taped in the early 90’s, people in and around Berlin who’s first metal experience was this concert.

“Hallucinative Comas” is the mini horror movie shot for the release of the “Coma of Souls” album in 1990. Along with the movie footage of villain Dr. Wagner and his evil deeds are inter cut videos for “People of the Lie”, “Twisted Urges”, “Coma of Souls” which I think has one of Kreator’s best riffs/arrangements, and “Terror Zone”. For this DVD, original director Andreas Marshall has re-edited his own Directors Cut featuring never before seen scenes that were edited out of the original cut.

Also included are deleted scenes and interviews with cast and crew.
