Shakra - Fall

Label: Candlelight Records USA
Format: CD
Released: 2006

Shakra has been around for a number of years but with the release of "Fall" they are a new band to my ears. I was very impressed after my first time listening to this album. The boys hail from Switzerland, which is the home to some of hard rock/metal greats such as Celtic Frost, Krokus, and Gotthard. The style is melodic hard rock all the way and done the right way. Fans of the previously mentioned Gotthard and Krokus along with TNT and Pink Cream 69 will definitely dig this band.

Lots of great hooks and awesome choruses are represented throughout the disc. ‘Out of Control’ starts off with a basic Motorhead like vibe and half way through the musicianship is so tight and heavy, you would think you’re listening to the hard rocking side of German power metal leaders Edguy. Same goes for the amazing seven minute tune ‘Walk on Water’ which is very heavy and crunchy yet calm and features some killer guitar work. The band toured in support of this album late last year in Europe with Finnish power metal legends Stratovarius. "Fall" landed in the Swiss charts at position #28 upon release. This band would do very well if put on an American tour with bands like Dokken, Cinderella, Whitesnake and the like and exposed to that kind of audience and would even do well with heavier acts such as W.A.S.P. and Helloween. "Fall" is a very enjoyable album and represents nothing but kick ass hard rock. Do yourself a favor and check these guys out.
