Rob Rock - Holy Hell

Label: AFM
Format: CD
Released: 2005
Reviewed By: Rich Catino

This is the third solo release from a rather underrated vocalist who fronted such other bands as Impellitteri, Warrior and Axel Rudi Pell as well as a part on the Avantasia project from Edguy frontman Tobias Sammet. The Florida based singer Rob Rock tapped into the following players for his new high energy effort; guitarists Carljohan Grimmark and Daniel Hall, bassist Andreas Olsson and drummer Andreas Johanssen alongside drummer Bobby Jarzombek (Halford, Iced Earth, Riot)) and guitarists Bob Rossi and Rick Renstrom, plus special guests Tobias from Edguy and Italian keyboardist Mistheria.

Rob is kinda looked at as an unknown to the mass populous of Heavy Metal fans though he is recognized and respected for his work by many from the community. With tracks titled 'Holy Hell', 'Calling Angels', 'Slayer of Souls', 'When Darkness Reigns', he has put a lot of energy and power into this new disc. I even hear some Gamma Ray influence (ie; 'Calling Angels') and Kai Hansen’s style of writing on a few of these tracks. It’s so there but it is not a blatant rip off, just obviously a great choice to cite for a musical arrangement. 'I’m a Warrior' is a great rocker ready for radio, but unfortunately we know that’s not gonna happen in the States I hate to say, just have to hope people will have to find out about it through writers like myself.

Each track, plus a power ballad, is traditional Hard Rock/Metal complete with guitar solos, strong soulful vocals and a memorable chorus. Rock Rock’s music is perfect for those interested in the sound from the 80’s without it feeling like the music is dated.

Produced by Roy Z which is always a plus, this limited edition copy includes a bonus track, video clip and multimedia extras.
