Destruction – Inventor of Evil

Destruction are back and not alone this time with the infamous meat cleaver wielding mad butcher returning for their booklet artwork. This revisiting of their past seems to have given the band some creative inspiration as while its nothing different from what they have done before, the songs are just better. "Metal Discharge" I think had a going through the motions feel to several songs.

"Inventor" kicks off with the thrashy ‘Soul Collector’ followed by the musically challenging ‘The Defiance Will Remain’ (and Mike is going to sweat playing this one live being he is the only guitar player).

‘The Alliance of Hellhounds’ features the following guest vocalists all taking a line or two; Biff Byford (Saxon), Doro Pesch, Shagrath (Dimmu Borgir), Björn "Speed" Strid (Soilwork), Paul Di'Anno (ex-Iron Maiden), Messiah Marcolin (Candlemass), Mark Osegueda (Death Angel), Peavy Wagner (Rage), Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy). ‘The Calm Before the Storm’ is interesting as it includes an acoustic guitar intro, something different, that’s good. ‘The Chosen Ones’ and ‘Under Surveillance’ rips and tears. ‘Dealer of Hostility’ has traditional Destruction riffing.

Throughout its good old fashion thrash, all tracks smoke with groove and speed and definitely some of their strongest arrangements. Their style is very tight and focused here. I think this one will bring many back to "Infernal Overkill" and "Release from Agony". Glad to see the butcher is back, the booklet’s artwork is fantastic. A horror movie waiting to happen!
