Destruction - Metal Discharge

Label: Nuclear Blast
Format: CD
Released: 2003
Reviewed By: Rich Catino

On “Metal Discharge” they have maintained the same spirit heard on “The Antichrist”, frantic thrash riffs, rhythms, and chaotic solos. Starting off with “The Ravenous Beast” into the title track is pure Destruction. The band did include a couple tracks that are less aggressive like “Rippin the Flesh Apart” which follows the first two songs but does not fit at this point on the cd and should have been used later on. This is another side to them showing that every tune does not have to be balls out speed throughout.

Moving along, things get back to normal with “Fear of the Moment” and a more groove laden chorus to “Mortal Remains”. I do notice that lead singer Schmier is not utilizing his trademark squeal while delivering some of the lyrics, something I always enjoyed about their sound that made them unique. Destruction has not really done anything special with this release but at least it is true to form. The bonus disc includes a great version of the classic “Whiplash” by Metallica and “Killers” by Iron Maiden as well as some demo versions of their own music.
