Grimfist - Ghouls Of Grandeur

Label: Candlelight Records
Format: CD
Released: 2003
Reviewed By: Rich Catino
Grimfist was formed in 2001 as a side project led by then-Immortal drummer Horgh and guitarist Ole Walaunet, later to be joined by vocalist Frediablo. The formation of this project/band was ironically also the time that Immortal announced its breakup. Another Immortal member, bassist Iscariah, also played briefly with the band in the early days.

What can be heard is a mix of death and thrash metal. Blast beats mix with mid tempo drums depending on the tune. I say this because within each track contains changes preventing each arrangement from being repetitive. Vocals switch back and forth from black and death styling's. For a three piece there is a wall of sound which is clean and forceful. "A World of Wrath" has two vocal styles, death and clean, creating a compliment to each other and working well. Within this brutal attack, variety, tempo changes, and a splash of guitar soloing make for a uncompromising, yet very audible listen even to those not a tune to more extreme sounds.
