Note: sorry for the lack of pictures. Lighting for the first three songs (of course, when photographers are doing our job) was very dark. Band was mostly backlit and lots of purple with very low lighting.
I remember hearing the singles 'Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck', 'Beg To Differ' and 'Unconditional' all the time on Seton Hall's college (pirate) radio station WSOU in the late 80s/early 90s. Outside of those songs was never really a fan. Tommy Victor (guitars, lead vocals) the only original member in the three piece. Crowd seemed to enjoy them but Overkill always brings more people when they do a thrash package.
Overkill continue to support the latest album "The Wings Of War" from 2019 since the touring cycle was interrupted by the pandemic during 2020-21. 'Head Of A Pin' from the album is still in the setlist. Rest of the tunes were a little bit from every era, and the usual suspects. Bobby Ellsworth the voice and personality keeps the show alive with his unique tone and banter with hometown NY/NJ fans. DD Verni positioned low to the ground adds that other unique sound to Overkill in his bass tone. Derek Tailer still on rhythm guitar, but joined by Vio-Lence six string beast Phil Demmel temporarily filling in for Dave Linsk. Demmel does a great job, faithful to the original riffs and solos but adding his own little spice. More whammy bar, please. Jason Bittner making his recording debut on the new album.
Being a NJ native I've seen Overkill over forty times, and the setlist is always a little bit of everything. 'Wrecking Crew' was a fitting addition as an opener, but would like to have seen a couple from the 80s dusted off in the set.
