Dreams of Damnation Epic Tales of Vengeance
Metal Blade
2006
CD

Going into listening to this album I was rather excited to hear what Jim Dirkin of the legendary Dark Angel had prepared for us hungry metal fans. Sadly I was left less than impressed. Rather than sounding fresh and brand new it basically sounds like Dark Angel rehashed to me. While that is not a terrible thing my point is that its been done before and listening to this album feels like its 1986 rather than 2006. I also find nothing epic about this album like the title suggests as it features 7 tracks (6 full songs if you take away the intro) and the average song length on the album lasting about 4 minutes and being rather repetitive. Female vocalist Loana dP Valencia sure can get her growl on and can easily be mistaken for one of the guys if you did not know a female was behind the mic.
Thrash metal fans that yearn for the old school will definitely enjoy however...... I feel over the past couple years bands like Death Angel, Kreator, Exodus, Overkill, Sodom , and Destruction have done a great job of sticking to their roots but making their new music sound like it is being released today and not in a time machine.
In conclusion this is not a terrible album but also not a memorable one.
